DIY Halloween Costume/Fabric Dye Tutorial

For this years Halloween costume, me and one of my friends have decided to dress up as the Grady Twins from The Shining! It's a really easy costume and because it is a costume for two people it kind of kills two birds with one stone. YEP.

If you want to make this costume you will need:
  • 2 pale blue dresses (We got cheap white ones from Primark and dyed them, I'll show you how)
  • Brown wig each (Dependent on hair colour - we're both blonde so needed them!) Ebay
  • Pair of white knee-high socks each Ebay
  • Black flat shoes/ballerina's each (Got them in Primark for like £3)
  • Blood/gory makeup Ebay
I already have blood/theatre makeup, but I got the rest for around £24, so £12 each which is amazing considering the prices of some packet Halloween costumes you can buy.

So first things first: the dresses. We got 2 white dresses from Primark, on sale at £3. We bought white because they were the only dresses that looked pretty similar to the type of dress the Grady Twins wear. I dyed them to a pale blue colour using Dylon fabric dye in Bahama Blue for £2.99, and some Dylon salt for 50p from Wilko.

The dying process is simple:
  • Mix the dye packet with 500ml warm water
  • Fill a basin/sink with 6L warm water (I used my kitchen sink, I filled it about 1/3 full)
  • Add 5 tbsp Dylon Salt into the sink
  • Then pour in the dye and mix well
  • Finally place the fabric/clothes into the sink and mix regularly for an hour
That's just a quick how-to but there's easy instructions on the back of the packet. Once that's all done rinse it with cool water then wash with warm water.

Then just add the wig if needed, socks, shoes and blood if you want, Voila!

I'll post a picture of our finished costume on Halloween.

How to update a chest of drawers for less than £20!

I replaced all the old drawer handles with new, crystal-effect ones.

This is a really easy and cheap way to update and old chest of drawers! It cost me around £16.95 for all these crystal effect knobs (I needed 16 in total). I got these ones from Home Bargains, but I know TK Maxx sometimes sells different knobs, too.

I just had to unscrew all the old ones then screw these in, it didn't take long at all and it looks so much better! Added a few sparkly candle holders on top to bring it all together. I don't have any before pictures but they looked pretty boring before.

Have you painted/reupholstered/updated any old furniture? Do you have any current DIY projects? Comment below <3

Autumn/Halloween Cheap Treats

Autumn is my favourite season! It means cold days & darker nights, getting cosy, beautiful autumnal colours, Halloween(!!!) and best of all: A/W Fashion.

As most people will have their winter parkas and boots by now, I decided to do a mini Halloween themed cheap fashion wishlist to get in the spirit:

I'll also be posting my recent Primark Autumn Haul in the next few days, so look out for that.

TRESemme Keratin Smooth Masque Review

I recently bought TRESemme Keratin Smooth Masque, as I had not tried it yet and it is half price in Superdrug right now (£2.98 instead of £5.99; LOVE a bargain).  Tresemme are one of my favourite brands for shampoo and conditioner; I've tried a lot of their products over the years and I'm always happy with the results.

I colour/bleach my hair quite frequently, so I have frazzled ends and my hair can feel quite 'rough' when I don't put a good treatment/masque over it.

The masque has a thick, creamy consistency, and smells quite nice too, which helps!  You don't need to use loads of it when you apply it, so you'll get some longevity out of it.  The instructions say to leave it on for 3-5 minutes, I left it on for about 4.  It also says to use it as a weekly treatment, or as often as needed; I use it 2-3 times a week as my hair is very dry/damaged.  Once I washed it off and dried my hair, it felt lovely and soft, I was really impressed with the condition!  My hair didn't feel lank/greasy, as some conditioners/masques can make your hair feel.

I can run my fingers easily through my hair and my ends don't feel as rough as they usually do.
So I think I'll be sticking with this masque for a while, or at least until my hair is in good condition again!  Do you use Tresemme products?  What are your favourites?  Leave a comment <3
